World Book Day

Come and join book club if you love book...

Do you LOVE books? Well come along to the studio on Monday’s and Thursday’s with your favourite book. We’ll read books and share parts of your stories. Any type of books are included fiction, Non-Fiction, Mythical, Fairy Tale and more! This club will include lots of reading and activities such as telling stories, reading funny parts of their books. We will take names and ages down on one of my many diaries. Also you could take your own diary so you can keep track of what book you are reading. Look forward to seeing you there :)

Bare with us Our library is currently under going a revamp...it is going electronic :) watch this space!

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading. The aims of World Book Day are to encourage children to read, explore the joy of books and share with others their favourite story. At Ocean the atmosphere was electric and full of excitement as the children arrived dressed head to toe in their favourite character costume. We loved seeing them so passionate about reading and enjoy discovering their teacher’s interests in books too.

At Ocean Academy, we are passionate about reading. We use Jane Considine’s scheme ‘Book Talk’, which allows children to delve deeper into texts, explore them in a comfortable environment and discuss their thoughts. By encouraging your child to read, you are equipping them with a greater use of language and you will soon find that they too, enjoy the rewards of reading.

Our Blog writers, photographers and researchers interviewed some of the teachers and took pictures of them in their costumes.

Miss West

Favourite book: Matilda by Roald Dahl.

She loves the characters in the book in particular Matilda, who she has great compassion for.

Mr Lee

Favourite book: Varjak Paw by S.F Said.

He loves the writing and illustrations in the book.

Miss O'Brien

Favourite book: Wonder by R.J Palacio

She enjoys this book as it teaches you not to judge someone by how you look.

Mrs Yates

Favourite book: Harry Potter

She loves the magical element and how it takes you to another world, which could possibly be a real world!

Mrs Brown:

Favourite book: Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman

She loves how your soul lives outside your body as an animal. This fits comfortably with her compassion towards living creatures.

Finally a poem written by Mrs Cope our library coordinator who is very passionate about books.

Friends

I like to have some free time,

And chill out with my friends.

Although at times they wind me up,

And drive me around the bend.

I wouldn’t like not to have them,

‘cos I’d always be alone.

You cannot share a laugh or joke,

When you’re on your own

I like a game of footie,

We can all charge about.

From one goal end to another,

We tackle, score and shout.

A game is not about winning,

Not really, in the end.

It’s the fun you make and the time you take

When you’re with your friend.

When you’re down and worried,

And your feeling inside out.

That’s the time that matters most,

To have your friends about!

Maybe you could try and write your own poem or short story. Share your favourite books and why with a grown up or just get reading and lost into the world of imagination. Where will it take you?
