U11 Girls Football Tournament at Park School

We had a very exciting trip to Park School to take part in the Year 6 football tournament last week. We had never attended this event as a school before so we did not know what to expect. We took 8 girls: Lucie (Captain) Shivonne, Lara, Megan, Kaitlin, Anais, Alice, and Gaia. First Ocean Academy played St James’ school, then they had a quick break and played against Yarrells school. They went straight back on to play a tough game against BCPS B team and that ended the first round. The girls scored 11 points and we won the first round!

We then made it through to the quarter finals and played BCS A team and the after a very tough game, with it being 0-0 after extra time, the game went to penalties and ended 4-3 after penalties to Ocean Academy. All girls were so excited to be in the semi-final! We played against Corpus Christi and the score was 1-0 in the last minute of extra time. After some fantastic football being played and all girls having a growth mindset and giving 100% effort in every game - we were through to the final of the whole tournament!

In the final, we were up against St Catherine’s school, this was the toughest game yet and all girls had to dig deep and give it everything they had. It was still 0-0 at the end of the game, so it went to extra time again! The score was still 0-0 at the end of extra time, so it went to penalties again... after a tense few minutes, we won 4-2 after penalties! This meant that Ocean Academy had WON the whole tournament and got to go home with a big shield! It was a brilliant result and we spoke to Miss James who went to the event with Mr White, she said “It was a fantastic afternoon, and all girls played brilliantly and made the school proud. The team spirit was so important to get through a chilly afternoon and 3 hours of playing some tough games. To win the plate, was an amazing result and so well deserved!”
